I have been slack again, so lots to write!

overcast

Hey All,

Well its been along time since I have added something to this so might take a while. It will be rather boring though as we havent really being doing much apart from work but anyway.

Saturday 30th July:

Today Auntie Carol drove down to Hunstanton to pick me up and take me across to Holt to go and see Grandy and Grandad. They inivited me to come around for the night as I was not working and they were hosting a neighbourhood party that they wanted me to help with. The afternoon was spent with all of Grandy and Grandads friends and so I was bombarded with questions about Australia, what I am doing here etc. etc. It was a good afternoon though. In the evening, I just watched TV with Grandad before heading off to bed.

Sunday 31st July:

Today, Grandy and Grandad drove me across to Auntie Carols house, before we headed out to lunch at a nice pub about 10 miles out of Norwich. Being sunday, it was Sunday Carvery so I had roast chicken which was nice. In the afternoon Auntie Carol drove me back to Hunstanton. In the evening I went down to the Wash and Tope with Brett. We hung out with Fiona and Emily, 2 girls that work with me, and they decided that we needed a haircut. So once the pub shut, they came back to ours and started hacking into our hair with the bluntest scissors you will ever see. Bretts hair came out alright, but mine on the other hand was all over the place. I could not believe that I let them cut it.

Monday 1st August:

I woke up and was in shock at just how bad my hair actually was. Due to the fact that I had to work in the afternoon I raced down to the barber to have it properly cut. I ended up just saying SHAVE IT all off, so I left as a skinhead!!!!!!

I headed off to work at 5 and no-one could believe that I had to shaved, but thankfully they all liked it so I was releaved! Anyway, I worked till about 11:30 before heading home to bed.

Tuesday 2nd August:

I had the day off and just chilled at home and had a few drinks at work.

Wednesday 3rd August:

Once again, I had the day off and just did some shopping, did a load of washing and played some pool at work. I felt way to domesticated!!!!!!!

Thursday 4th August:

Third day off in a row!!! Fortunately, the 2nd Ashes test started so I watched that in the pub and had a few drinks. In the evening I headed around to Auntie Kaths and was slammed by Matt about how good the English played during the day....for once!!!!!

Friday 5th August:

I worked in the afternoon from 11-5 before having a few drinks with Freddy and Alex, the 2 English blokes that we have made friends with. We headed down to the Cellar bar and before we knew it we were sitting on a beach with these few girls in front of a little bonfire that we made out of an empty beer carton. It was the most randon night and we ended up getting home at about 2.

Saturday 6th August:

I worked from 11-5 and I was told that the tills were down again! I seriously felt like killing Paul before walking out on them but decided not to as I need the money!!! In the evening I just chilled in front of the TV before having an early night.

Sunday 7th August:

I chilled at home in during the day before heading off to work at 5. When i got there, I poured a beer that came out flat so tried again. After about 7 flat pints Paul started cutting sick telling me that it was all my fault and that i was the worst barman ever!!!! then he tried pouring one and the same thing happened...i shoke my head at him and was sooo ssoooo close to walking out it wasnt funny. However, I put up with it for the night and Paul told me to come in early in the morning to clean all the glasses with some detergent in the hope that it would fix the flat beer problem.

Monday 8th August:

I came into work at 8 to begin cleaning every glass in the whole pub. After 3 hours of work they were all cleaned but still the beer was pouring flat!!! Someone from the brewery came out to have a look at it ended up being that one of the other barmen, or should i say barmaids, had changed the gas pressure for the pub, ruining every barrel that was connected up!!!! Once that was all fixed up...the beer was still pouring flat!!!! What had now happened was that the glass detergent thing had stuffed up the glasses so i spent the rest of the arvo handwashing every single glass...AGAIN!!!!!! Seriously..WORST DAY EVER!!!

Tuesday 9th August:

Today i worked from 10:45 till 5. It was alright apart from the fact that every dirty glass now had to be hand washed as the glasswasher was wrecked from that detergent!!! In the evening I chilled at home in front of the tv.

Wednesday 10th August:

Had the day off so just chilled.

Thursday 11th August:

Worked form 11-5. In the evening Brett and I cooked up a chicken stir-fry that actaully tasted alright!!!

Friday 12th August:

Worked from 9-1, then 7-midnight. During the day I watched some of the 3rd ashes test.

Saturday 13th August:

Worked from 11-5. In the evening I went out to the Cellar Bar for some drinks.

Well I have probably bored you out of your brains now but meehhh, atleast i will be able to remember what i was doing whilst I was away when i come home to OZ.

Sorry i've been soooooo slack

So much to Catch Up on!

sunny 21 °C

Hey All,

Well I have finally found the time to get the internet and after not adding an entry on this site for like 20 days I thought that I probably should.

So here goes!!!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday 12th July:

I woke up with a hella bad cold. It sucked cos the weather was alright and i didnt have the energy to do anything :-(. Anyway, Sarah and Johnnie wanted me to help them paint their cubby house so Brett and I thought we would help as it would give us something to do. In the end the whole thing was a mess, especially considering the fact that we were using brushes the size of a toothbrush and that there was a 4 yr old trying to help. Anyway, Brett had to head off to work at 6 so I just chilled with the family for the night.

Wednesday 13th July:

I was still feeling pretty unwell but I went for a ride with Auntie Kath along the coast to go and fetch Matt from his sailing course. When we arrived, I could not believe how ugly the beaches here are...even though everyone here reacons that they are some of the best in England...sucks to be them! The rest of the afternoon I just spent at the house playing cricket with Matt in the backyard and also kayaking in the moat!

Thursday 14th July:

I got a phone call from the bloke at the Wash and Tope in the morning and they wanted me to come in for a trial shift in the evening. I spent the afternoon chilling at home with Matt before heading off for work at 5. I was only meant to be there for 2 hours but ended up working until 10.

Friday 15th July:

The Wash and Tope asked me to work for them so I accepted and was asked to work from 11 to 5. I arrived and I was pretty much left on my own to work stuff out alone...it was sooo gay and I had no idea how to do some things and was asking the customers to point things out etc. It was the worst day ever and I was unwell the whole day. The bosses are hell unfriendly and make you feel hell intimidated. Anyway, it is a job which means money so mehh. In the evening I came home and Uncle Richard had arrived from Hong Kong. It was his Birthday also so we went out for a meal at a pub nearby which was nice. I had the best pork rapped in bacon followed by creme brulle for dessert...so good!!!!

Saturday 16th July:

I chilled at the house in the morning before heading off to work in the afternoon at 3. As soon as I arrived i was accussed of stealing money...i told them to get stuffed and that i hadnt taken anything. Anyway, they just said that they would keep an eye on me. I worked until 6 and then had a 2 hour break before starting again at 8. It was hell quiet so i left at 9:30. I left in the worst mood though and felt like kicking my boss in the nuts cos he was being such a wa$n%er!!!!

Sunday 17th July:

Grandy and Grandad drove up from Holt to come around for lunch. It was soooo good to see them again considering the fact that i hadnt seen them for about 12 yrs!!!!! Auntie Carol also came around and we had a great afternoon, highlighted by Johnnie when he began skulling a glass of champagne. It was the funniest thing ever, and even funnier seeing him after!!!! I had to head off to work at 6. Work was alright as it was pretty busy but not soooo busy that it was stressful. I was accussed of stealing money again though and at this point i was ready to walk out on them but decided not to as i need the work. I ended up finishing at about 11:30 and meet up with Brett outside to begin the 40 minute walk back to A. Kath and U. Richards.

Monday 18th July:

I worked from 11 till 5 which was so boring i felt like shoting myself. But atleast today i wasnt accussed of stealing I was only yelled at for bringing my boss the phone!!!! They seriously have an anger problem!!!! In the evening I played backyard cricket with Matt and U. Richard and gave them a taste of what was going to happen in the Ashes...a ripe old thrashing from the Aussies!!!! We had a BBQ for dinner which reminded me of home...only minus all the mates:-(.

Tuesday 19th July:

I had the day off of work and just spent the day mucking around with the kids. I walked around Hunstanton trying to find some permanent accomodation as we cant stay with A.Kath and U.Richard the whole time that we are here. I had no luch though. In the evening I watched a DVD with Matt...forgot the name of it but it was pretty good.

Wednesday 20th July:

I went in to work at 9 to help Paul(my boss) clean the beer lines, but it ended up being a disaster...not on my part, but there was no pressure in the lines so it took 2 hours for us to do instead of 1!! I then had to work behind the bar from 11 till 5...so ended up working for 8 hours straight which sucked. In the evening I came home and played cricket with Matt.

Thursday 21st July:

I worked from 11 till 5 which was soo boring . In the evening we went out for dinner with the family to the Orange tree restaurant for dinner. I had the best steak burger and then chocolate brownie for dessert. Later in the night, A. Kath and U. Richard along with Ellie, Matt, Sarah and Johnnie headed for London to move furniture from their house in London up here to Hunstanton.

Friday 22nd July:

I worked from 11 till 5 again. The Ashes had begun so I made a bet with one of the locals that England wouldnt make Australia's first innings total. I ended up winning 5 pound off him. After work I just had a counter meal and then headed home and had an early night cos Brett was at work.

Saturday 23rd July:

Because the family was still in London I was able to sleep in for a while. I spent the morning and early arvo just chilling at the house before heading off to work at 3. I worked until 12 with a break at 6. It was pretty busy which was good.

Sunday 24th July:

I worked from 12 till 3. I came home and watched the Aussies on TV win the first Ashes test!!!! I rubbed it in to Matt and U. Richard so much along with the people at work! I went back to work at 7 and ended up finishing at 11:30.

Monday 25th July:

I worked from 11 till 5. It was another boring day and the clock seemed to move backwards! After work I meet up with Brett and took me to OUR own flat!!! Thats right, he managed to find us some accomodation. His boss owns a set of holiday flats and she has let us move into one while we are here. The place is awesome. It has everything...TV, lounge, beds(ofcourse), kitchen with all appliances and a bathroom. Only downer is that it doesnt have a shower only a bath...so that kinda sux but meehh. The family took us out for dinner to the White Horse again which was nice.

Tuesday 26th July:

I worked from 11 till 5 but felt so bad all afternoon. As soon as the clock ticked over to 5 i legged it home and collapsed in my bed.

Wednesday 27th to 29th July:

I woke up on Wednesday morning with the Gastro!!!!! I had to call work and tell them that i wasnt coming in...not that they believed me that I was sick!! I spent the next 3 days in bed or infront of the TV and didnt eat that whole time cos of how bad i felt. By thisafternoon i was feeling slightly better and headed around to A. Kath and U. Richards for another BBQ dinner before heading home for bed.

Anyway, Im glad that I have managed to give ya an update, all be it very boring just like Hunstanton is!!!

I will speak soon,

First Few Days in Hunstanton

semi-overcast 20 °C

Hey All,

We have arrived in Huntstanton safely and have now been here two nights. We caught the train up from Kings Cross Station, London and arrived in Kings Lynn which is about 15 mins from Huntstanton at 3 in the arvo on Saturday. The trip was fine and took us through some English countryside which was nice to see. Aunty Kathy picked us up in Land Rover with Matthew and within minutes of arriving in Hunstantion we had already arranged a job interview with a local pub. After finding ourselves in what seems like a castle, Brett and I chucked some better clothes on and headed into the town centre to the Wash and Tope pub. The interview went well but the place wasn't sure of how many hours they could give so the bloke said he would call around and see what else he could find for us.

After leaving, we walked around for a bit before walking back past the Wash and Tope. The bloke that had interviewed us ran out and told us to go straight around the corner and speak to a lady in another pub. We made our way across and spoke with her for a bit and things looked good and she said she would give us a call to come in a do a trial shift.

So anyway, we made our way back to the house and had our fingers crossed that she would call. The house here is massive. It was once an old hall or something and I swear I am still yet to see the whole house. Brett and I are sharing a room on the second floor, but there are about 6 other bedrooms within the house. The garden is huge also, and is guarded by a large moat that surrounds the area - I told you it was like a castle and that is one reason why!!

After unpacking etc. Brett and I just mucked around with the kids - Eleanor(15), Matt (13), Sarah (8) and little Johnnie (4). After dinner, we just talked in the lounge room catching up after not seeing each other for about 5 yrs.

On Sunday morning, Brett and I were woken by the phone and hoping that it was the lady re. the job I raced downstairs to grab it. We were in luck as it was her asking us each to come in during the day for a trial. I was asked to come in at 12 so had to race around to find something to wear etc. as it was already 10:30. Anyhow, I managed to find something and headed down to the pub. It is called Chives and isnt really a pub but rather a Wine Bar. The shift went well and at 4 I headed home. Brett was due to start at 6 so I quickly tried to give him some pointers on what to do etc. before he set off.

I spent the evening playing cricket outside with Matt and at about 7, Rebecca (18) arrived from London and so she became the centre of attention for the rest of the night. Brett came home from work at about 11:30 after being bombarded by customers on a balmy summer Sunday's night - Im so glad I did the afternoon shift. Anyway, his shift went well also and he is now (Monday night) back at the bar doing a second shift. Sandra, the owner, has said that she needs one full-time and one part-time so Brett and I will have to discuss that, but Sandra doesn't mind if we split the shifts which is good.

However, we haven't actually been told that we have the jobs yet, but we are presumming that we do especially considering that Brett is working as I speak.

This morning though, Brett and I needed to find some more clothes to wear for work so Auntie Cath set out to find us some stuff. She came back with a pair of pants that fit me pefectly and a nice shirt that Brett and I will be able to share. However, Brett still needed another shirt and I needed some shoes and a belt so this afternoon Auntie Cath dropped us into town and we hunted around for some things, eventually finding some stuff in a small op shop - stingy but good clothes still so we are happy!

Today we also went for a walk along the beach with the rest of the family and were out for about 2 hrs...nice to breathe some clean air as opposed to that of London. However, Brett and I were hating the hayfever!!!!

Well it is now 10 and Brett is still working away (hehehehe). Sorry about the dullness of thuis entry...but atleast it brought good news with the jobs!

Last Days in London

Few Scares, Couple of Drinks and a Whole Heap of Fun!

semi-overcast 22 °C

Gday All,

Today is Saturday and Brett and I are getting ready to leave for Huntstanton which is North-East from London. We are going up to stay with Auntie Cathy and the kids.

I thought I might tell you what we have been up to though during our last days in London.

Well Thursday was a complete and utter nightmare with all the terrorist attacks that occured in the morning. Brett and I chilled (we tried our best to anyway) in the hostel for most of the day as we couldn't get anywhere because all the transport systems were closed down...for obvious reasons! In the evening we tried to find somewhere to eat, but everywhere was closed by 5pm due to staff shortages as no one was able to get to work etc. but eventually we found a supermarket that was open and just grabbed a bbq chicken and some rice which was ok considering the circumstances. That night was just spent in the hostel again talking with everyone and watching TV...not that interesting but mehhh.

On Friday, Brett and I decided to do some more sight seeing as it was our last day in London. We hopped on the tube (the lines that were operational anyway, which werent that many) and headed for Monument station, which is just near the Thames. After walking to Liverpool St. Station to find info about trains to Hunstanton, Brett and I headed back towards Monument only to have the daylights scared out of us. As we approached the station we heard sirens in the distance and they were approaching quickly. Within seconds about 5 cop cars pulled up outside the tube station and a dozen officers raced down to the platform. Not eager to hang around and what to be blown up by another bomb blast, Brett and I scurried off in the other direction, just as more police were arriving - we would have looked quite guilty if you ask me; two lads running off as cops pulled up to somewhere they had just been. We still don't know whether it was a bomb scare or what but I'm not keen to find out.

Anyway, with our hearts pumping we heading towards St Paul's Cathedral. The place can be seen from a mile away and once we were there, we couldn't believe the size of it...it is massive. It was ruined though by large scaffolding that was erected to carry out renovations which was a bummer so we will have to rely on postcards to give us a full picture of the place.

Anwyay, after taking what photos we could we crossed the road and found ourselves at the Millenium Bridge - not much really. All it was good for was to show us how dirty the Thames is! Like everwhere else, we took a few photos and moved on.

Our last stop was the London and Tower Bridges. The Tower Bridge was pretty impressive as we walked across it towards the London Tower. Again though, this sight was ruined as they were setting up for some kind of concert in the gardens of the tower, but ohh well.

After walking for about 4 hrs, Brett and I decided to head back to the hostel and jumped back on the tube. Once back, we made ourselves some dinner and had a few drinks. At about 9 though, everyone in the hostel decided to go to the Walkabout Pub in Sheperd's Bush and so we joined. The Walkabout Pubs are Aussie pubs all through London (maybe other places aswell but I'm not sure). We paid our 2 quid to get in and then danced the night away to good old Aussie Beats with some others also. We got back to the hostel at about 12:30 and kept on drinking in our room - along with the rest of the hostel . Thats right, our room was the place to be!!! By about 4, everyone decided that it was time to get some shut eye and disappeared to their rooms. A very fun night!!!

Well, it is now the morning after but I feel good so that helps and we are just about to leave for the Norwich region as I said.

Speak Soon,

Chalkers.

Just Our Luck - No Job and now Terrorist Attacks

rain 14 °C

Hey All,

Well it is Thursday afternoon and this morning I woke to the sound of sirens and more sirens. I had no idea what was going on until Brett came into the room and said that the Tube system was not running for some reason.

We headed into the TV room and found ourselves watching blown up buses, panic in the tube stations and news headlines saying "London hit by Terrorists". This morning at about 9:15 a bomb was detonated on one of the underground tubes causing people to revert to the buses for transport. However, minutes later a bus was bombed also and now the city is in panic mode. Im not totally sure what the story is, but at this stage it has been reported that 6 explosions have occured on trains and a further few on buses...what a coincedence that it happened the day after London was awarded the 2012 olympics!!

Anyway, this week has been frustrating to say the least with Brett and I still having no luck with jobs!

However, we had a good night on Monday when we met up with the South African girls again. We went to Hyde Park and had a few drinks before heading down the road to a pub with them. Because of the fact that pubs close here at 11, we then headed back to Hyde Park to continue drinking...it was bloody cold but it was all good. Brett and I ended up getting back to the hostel at 4:30am after having to catch the damn bus home.

Well anyway, not sure what we will be doing this afternoon. Probably putting up with the sound of sirens and news headlines scattered acroos the TV.

What a crap time for this to happen though cos now Brett and I are stuck in the same area cos all the public transport is down :-(
